Privacy Notice
Last updated: 20 May 2026. OYFS is a community project — built by a developer, maintained by its members. There is no company, no investors, and nobody to sell your data to. Here's exactly what we collect and what we do with it.
The short version
We collect the minimum needed to run the site. We don't sell data, we don't run ads, and we don't use third-party tracking. You can export everything or delete your account whenever you want. If you ever have questions, write to us.
What we collect
To run the network we store:
- // Account info — your name, email, hashed password, and any city/region you choose to share
- // Profile content — role, bio, skills, experience, and links you add
- // Pulses — your daily check-ins and the signal you choose
- // Activity — connections you make, upvotes you send, messages you exchange
- // Technical logs — IP address, browser, device, and pages loaded (used to keep the site running and detect abuse)
What we don't do
- // We don't sell your data to anyone
- // We don't run behavioral ads or share data with ad networks
- // We don't put third-party tracking pixels on the site or in emails
- // We don't scrape your contacts
- // We don't profile you beyond what's needed to show your profile and Pulse to other members
How we use what we collect
- // Run the recovery feed, profiles, Pulse system, and messaging
- // Show your profile to other signed-in members based on your visibility settings
- // Send notifications you've asked for (mentions, weekly digest, etc.)
- // Keep the site safe — detect spam, harassment, and abuse
- // Look at aggregate, anonymized numbers to understand how the site is doing
Who can see your data
Your profile is visible to other signed-in members by default. You can hide it from search, restrict who can message you, or set yourself to mentor-only at any time in Settings.
We use a small number of service providers to run the site — hosting, email delivery, and error monitoring. They process data on our behalf under their own privacy commitments. We'll only hand over data outside this list if we're legally required to (e.g., a court order we can't lawfully refuse), and we'll try to notify you when we can.
Cookies
We use two first-party cookies: one to keep you signed in, and one to remember your dark/light theme choice. That's all. No third-party analytics or advertising cookies. There's no cookie banner because there's nothing to opt into.
Your rights
At any time you can:
- // See what we have on you in Settings → Account → My data
- // Export a portable copy of your profile, Pulses, and connections
- // Correct anything by editing your profile
- // Delete your account — your data is removed within 30 days
- // Ask us to stop processing anything that isn't essential to keep the site running
If you live in the EU, UK, EEA, California, or anywhere else with stronger data-protection rules, those rules give you additional rights and they apply. Email us at privacy@onyourfeetsoldier.com and we'll respond within 30 days.
How long we keep things
We keep your account data while your account is active. When you delete your account, profile content, Pulses, and connections are removed within 30 days. Some technical logs may stick around for up to 90 days for security purposes. Aggregate, anonymized stats may be kept longer.
Children
OYFS is for adults navigating professional change. You need to be at least 16 to use the site. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you think a child has signed up, please tell us and we'll remove the account.
If things change
If we make a material change to this notice, we'll email signed-in members and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continued use after that means you accept the updated notice.
